A Bluetooth headset connects to your mobile phone, PC/Mac, Laptop or Tablet and enables you to speak hands-free, as well as listen to music, audio files, and even webinars. Bluetooth headsets are generally worn over-the ear, and are more geared towards people that are on the road; for example, sales people or event managers. They are much smaller and discreet than other headsets, with some being even just over 5cm long. While these tiny Bluetooth headsets may seem incapable of transmitting someone’s voice, make no mistake, they have powerful microphones. Most have inbuilt wind cancelling technology, in order to minimise external background noise and transmit the user’s voice clearly and effectively.
The average range of Bluetooth headsets is 10 metres, which means that you are able to move away from your device for up to 10 metres before you lose your connection. However, Jabra, for example have developed a Bluetooth headset that offers up to 100m wireless range (the Jabra Motion UC), so if range is an important factor, then you would need to consider the Jabra offering.
